He is a former Vice Chancellor of University of Ghana (2010- 2016) and has served as a Non-Executive Director at Stanbic Bank Ghana since June 2010. He is currently Secretary-General of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA).
Professor Ernest Aryeetey is a member of the Board of Director of the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI), New York. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the African Economic Research Consortium, Nairobi. Until recently, he was a Board Member at the Center for Development Research at University of Bonn in Germany.
Professor Aryeetey was a Senior Fellow and the first Director of the Africa Growth Initiative at Brookings Institution, Washington D.C. (February 2009-July 2010). He was also Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) at University of Ghana (2003-2009). He has served as Visiting Professor at many international universities including Ohio State University (1993), Yale University, New Haven (1999), and Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania (2001). He has been consultant to the World Bank and the African Development Bank on many occasions. Professor Ernest Aryeetey has published over 60 articles, book chapters, monographs and books in several international outlets.
He holds a B.A. Degree in Economics with Statistics from University of Ghana, an MSc. Degree in Regional Planning from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and a PhD from University of Dortmund, Germany
